About the Mid-Atlantic Climate Change Education Community

The Mid-Atlantic is bustling with education for climate action - from high quality teacher professional development to intergenerational community programs and everything in between. In 2020, a handful of partners came together to lift up this important work through our inaugural Mid-Atlantic Climate Change Education Conference (MACCEC). The energy continued with another three-day virtual conference in 2021, attended by more than 250 educators from across the region.

In the summer of 2022 we offered a scaled-back version of our conference (a one-day convening) while also hosting a two-day Forum to learn and share about the state of education for climate action and more intentionally build a community of diverse partners to uplift work under the MACCEC umbrella.

What emerged from the Forum are a series of working groups that are convening on a regular basis to propel conversations and work forward in these specific spaces. This model creates the space for shared-power and decision making for future conferences and initiatives led under the MACCEC name. We welcome you to become a part of the community in whatever calls to you - join a working group by reaching out to the "champion" listed below. Participate in our conference as an attendee or propose a session yourself. We're also seeking a few more people to join our 2023 conference planning team, specifically members who will bring diverse points of view.
